Build a Mini Nutrition Book with Your Child

A creative way to talk about food, health, and choices — one page at a time!

As parents, we often tell our children what to eat. But what if we involved them instead?

Creating a Mini Nutrition Book is a simple, fun activity that lets kids explore healthy eating in their own words, drawings, and ideas. It not only encourages better food habits, but also builds awareness, curiosity, and even a little pride in their choices.

Let’s walk you through how to do it!

What You’ll Need?

  • A small notebook, stapled pages, or even folded A4 sheets
  • Crayons, markers, glue, and safety scissors
  • Old magazines or food flyers (for cut-outs)
  • A few snack-sized breaks in between (optional but recommended 😉)

Ideas for Pages in the Book:

Each child can design and personalize it however they like, but here are some page prompts to get started:

  1. “My Favourite Healthy Foods”
Let them draw or paste fruits, veggies, or meals they enjoy.
  2. “Foods That Make Me Strong”
Include protein-rich foods like eggs, dal, or paneer.
  3. “What I Eat in a Day”
Help them plan a pretend (or real) healthy breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  4. “Water is Super!”
Add a water tracker or fun facts about staying hydrated.
  5. “Sometimes Foods”
Gently talk about treats like chips or chocolate and where they fit in moderation.
  6. “My Mealhey Moments” (optional for Mealhey subscribers)
A space to draw their favorite lunch they received from Mealhey!

What Kids Learn from This Activity?

  • Basic nutrition concepts in a hands-on way
  • Independence and mindfulness about food choices
  • Better mealtime conversations (“Look! I made a page about carrots!”)
  • Ownership — they’re more likely to eat what they understand

And a Little Bonus for Parents…

This little book becomes more than just an art project — it’s a conversation starter. A chance to slow down, sit beside your child, and talk with them, not just at them.
